A pesar de que las
Freak Wars vienen celebrándose desde 2014, este año fue la primera vez que
asistí. Siendo uno de los eventos de referencia para todos aquellos amantes de
las miniaturas, cosplay, wargames y juegos
de mesa está creciendo cada año, poco a poco. Años anteriores se ha celebrado
en Rivas-vaciamadrid, pero este año le tocó el turno a Carabanchel.
Although the Freak Wars have been celebrating since 2014, this year was the first time for me. This event is growing little by little and it’s
a reference for all those miniatures, cosplay, wargaming and board games lovers. Previous years has been held in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, but this year it was the turn of Carabanchel.
Fue muy fácil llegar, porque el polideportivo se encontraba
cerca del centro comercial Isla Azul (siempre es bueno tener referencias por si
te despistas) Además, según te ibas acercando a la meta, había voluntarios que
te indicaban por donde debías entrar.
It was very easy to get there, because the
sports centre was near Isla Azul Shopping Center (it is always good to have
references in case you get lost). Also, as you were approaching the goal, there
were volunteers who indicated where you should enter.
En la entrada del evento tuvimos que hacer un poco de cola
(para un sábado por la mañana no estuvo mal) y nos dieron un mapa y panfletos
informativos sobre la multitud de actividades que se podía realizar. Había
charlas de todo tipo, algunos cursos de pintores, actividades infantiles,
demostraciones de juegos…para todos los gustos.
At the entrance of the event we had to wait a
bit (not bad for a Saturday morning) and we got a map and informative pamphlets
of the multitude activities that could you could do. There were lectures of all
kinds, some painters’ courses, activities for children, demonstrations of
games...
Una vez dentro del pabellón central fui corriendo a ver
todos los puestos de las marcas de miniaturas y merchandising. Tanto que elegir…Me
llevé tres miniaturas que ya tenía fichadas. Especial mención a los puestos de
las ONGs y asociaciones que vendían cosas muy curiosas por una buena causa.
Once inside the central hall I ran to see all
the miniatures brands’ stands and merchandising. So many things to see... I bought
three miniatures that I really liked. Special mention to the NGOs stands that
sold very curious things for a good cause.
Jabba el Hutt y Han Solo en carbonita, nada más entrar,
causaba furor entre pequeños y mayores. Junto con algunos personajes de Star
Wars que paseaban por allí. Tras el concurso de cosplay, podías ver mucha gente que se había currado los cosplays.
Además de un Deadpool con su adorable mochila de poni rosa que hacía el loco
por ahí…
Jabba the Hutt and Han Solo in carbonite were
the sensation between young and old. Along with some Star Wars characters
walking around. After the cosplay contest, you could see a lot of people who
had worked hard their cosplays. Also you could say “Hi” to Deadpool with his
adorable pink pony backpack...
En la zona de torneos se notaba que el ambiente estaba animado,
muchas risas y en algunas mesas mucha concentración. Y la zona central donde
había demostraciones de juegos también estaba bastante concurrida. Y cerca un
puesto de hidromiel, que por la cola que había debía de estar buenísima.
In the tournament area the atmosphere was cheerful,
many laughs and at some tables a lot of concentration. In the central area
where there were game demonstrations was also quite crowded. And near by a post
of Mead, which by the queue it had to be awesome.
Y el plato fuerte para mí: las miniaturas.
En los puestos de las marcas podías ver muchas de sus miniaturas pintadas, algunas de ellas por pintores muy conocidos. Me sorprendió mucho el nivel del concurso. Este evento es poco
conocido pero espero que cada vez vaya despuntando más, porque la calidad de la
pintura lo merece. Ver las minis de cerca ayuda mucho a aprender. Porque no es
lo mismo ver una foto que poder tenerlas ahí al alcance de la mano (pero sin
tocar, ¿eh?) Para mí, no hubo suerte esta vez, pero me encantó ver todos los
trabajos de la gente.
And the main attraction for me: the miniatures.
In the brands' stands you could see their miniatures painted, some by well known painters. I was very surprised by the level of the contest. This event
is not very famous yet. But I hope that it will stand out more with time because
the quality of the painting deserves it. I learnt a lot just by seeing everybody’s
miniatures so close. Because it is not the same to see a photo that seeing them
within reach (but no touching, eh?) For me, there was no luck this time, but I
loved seeing all the great jobs.
Las únicas pegas que pongo son el tremendo calor que hacía
dentro y que para comer algo tenías que salir fuera a sentarte. Por lo demás, lo pasé muy bien. Les deseo mucha suerte y que sigan creciendo porque tienen mucha diversión que
aportar.
The only ointment were the tremendous heat
inside and there weren’t any places to seat and eat something. I had a great time. I
wish them good luck and I hope it keeps growing.
